We work with schools across the country to provide technical education materials and equipment, including 3D printers, vinyl cutters, CNC machines, rapid prototyping machines, laser engravers, and more.
Makerspaces and Fabrication Laboratories (FAB Labs) are two of the ways schools implement hands on STEAM and STEM education. Makerspaces are collaborative spaces where students and instructors work together to create real life prototypes. Students are actively engaged in new forms of critical thinking as they work to create solutions to real world problems.
Collaboration is the key to the success of any STEAM/STEM program, as instructors from cross disciplines teach and work together in a classroom with your students.
Curriculum for makerspaces and FAB Labs are as diverse as the machines that can make up these spaces. Instructors can choose many different paths, but the outcome is always the same—to have students interact with the creative process in new ways. Students from all disciplines and intended paths can benefit from learning how to utilize technology and bring their ideas to life by building real, physical prototypes. Anything from a clock gear to a prosthetic hand can be made a reality in a makerspace or FAB Lab.
FAB Labs and Makerspaces open up a whole new world of STEAM/STEM education and thinking processes for students. In reality, no one student could afford a 3D printer, or a laser, and they may never have a chance to interact with one on their own. But when a school purchases one, a creative outlet is opened to hundreds of students. And maybe one of them is sitting on the next big idea.
