Athletic floors are not just plywood and maple attached to a concrete subfloor. Athletic flooring is technical and continuously evolves to meet the demands of today’s athletes and athletic programs. Floors are designed into systems for specific functions or sport events. They are available in many materials and systems depending on your goals.
Many athletic flooring facilities combine wood and synthetic poured urethane floors to accomplish the best of both. For example, we have installed many wood center performance basketball courts surrounded by poured urethane courts on the same sub floor system. Side courts are typically used for basketball, volleyball, tennis, track, bleacher movement while the center court is used for basketball or volleyball performance events.
We have athletic flooring for every need – low cost, multi sport purpose, safety, shock absorption, ball bounce, durability, foot slide characteristics, aesthetics, impact resistance and more. Some clients want their athletic floor priorities to be safety and anti fatigue properties Other clients look for the fastest, highest performing playing surface for their competition floor. Our latest technology is regarded as the premier performance basketball floor.
Wood gym floors are the most common for their basketball performance characteristics. A well designed floor and sub system will provide the highest combination of shock absorption for the athlete’s joints, foot slide characteristics and highest ball bounce for fast play.
Poured urethane athletic flooring is most common in multi purpose gyms and athletic centers or field houses. It has the advantage of performance characteristics similar to wood floors plus the ability to be used for many sporting and non-sporting events.
Haldeman Homme is proud to provide many different kinds of flooring, including the Robbins Continuous Strip ®XL Flooring, a revolutionary way to create beautiful, natural wood flooring designs with unparalleled durability. The finger-jointed system combines different lengths of wood strips with super strong glue at the seams, creating large pieces of flooring that lock together. Having larger pieces of flooring—averaging 6 ½ feet!— to lock together will cut down the amount of end joints by about 70%, making your floor up to 180% stronger.
