The new Integrated Science Building at the University of Kansas is home to 4 collaborative-learning classrooms, 21 teaching laboratories, and 41 research labs. This Design-Build and Public Private Partnership project put HHI in close competition with other science laboratory specialty contractors. The HHI team navigated an aggressive and challenging scheduling system called SIPS (Short Interval Production Schedule), which was utilized by the construction manager.
HHI was able to stay competitive and show strong interest in the project, eventually negotiating the final pricing and contract. Once added to the project team, HHI provided design assistance to bring the project to a successful completion. Scheduling issues were resolved, and each installation group adjusted labor forces each week based on the amount of work in each area. HHI hired a site labor supervisor to oversee and direct the labor forces to ensure the project was done on time and to exact specifications.
HHI provided Metal painted lab casework, tables, island bench assemblies, ceiling service panels by Bedcolab, Fume Hoods by Labconco, Durcon epoxy resin tops, sinks and pegboards and phenolic resin shelves, Water Saver plumbing and electrical fixtures, Kumar Pipe Supports and Cylinder Restraints, Consolidated Steam Sterilizers, Lancer Glassware Washers, Movex Snorkels, Tresko (Hoshizaki) Ice Machines.
